Shop around - prices do vary. Ask friends, get quotes from other garages.

The government set the maximum price - and this is the price most dealers will charge.
Some garages will offer a cheaper price - they assume that the car will need some repairs to get through, and that they can make up the profit on the repairs.

God, yes!.
The first year I had my new car I stupidly went back to the dealership for the MOT and service and it came to nearly £600!
Now I go to the garage at the top of my road - MOT £33.00, service around £50. Check your yellow pages but local garages are generally under £50.00 (talking east London area)

Maximum charge permitted is £50-35, a lot of places charge less, you'll have to shop around - try some phone calls.

I have just had my car MOT'd (passed) cost £50. was told max. charge £50.32 main dealer would most likely charge maximum. Not much competition here, but probably less in large town, ask.
