I say you change own name to Satan for a couple of years.. see how the world reacts to you.. the unnecessary challenges you will face, .. the ridicule, the dismay, the boredom(once you explain that really it means 'light bearer') from the community around you.
Words/names don't just mean their original meanings anymore... they also carry heavy social context. Satan is very clearly associated with the acts of evil the church claims he's up to.. not the original context in which God may have created him, or anything more deep than... "God good, Satan bad".
If you desperately desire to give your child a name meaning 'light bearer' maybe find something less... challenging. Your kid shouldn't have to explain that name his whole life... he won't find it half as interesting or unique as you do.
I stick with the original plan of changing your own name to Satan.. then you'll get to talk about what a cool name it is .. without begging the world to harrass your child ;)
.. i mean.. come on.. how many times would that kid get his *** kicked on the playground ? be careful :P

I think that'd be a horrible name to call your son! I'm not that religious, and obviously, neither are you, but what if he is? Your job as a parent is to give your children the best start in life, and to encourage them to be all they can be. This wouldn't help at all. It would immediately create negative thoughts about him, and make people question what you're all about. Do you really want him to have to deal with negative thoughts?
As I mentioned, he might become religious, and wouldn't appreciate this name.

I think you already know the answer to your question, and just looking for a big response from people. Little more thought would be appreciated when posing them i think.
