Does anybody know of a website which offers a guide with illustration on how to remove them. I tried to cut between the puppies and the main plant straight down, ( I thought I could get a little bit of roots) but it did not come with any roots just the stock. I planted this without root and it died. I am a soldier in Germany my banana plant is winterhard or so the nursery said. Now I have a mother with about 6 babies. Can someone help tell me how to cut and replant these.? Any ideas how I can take extra precaution by protecting the plant leave for the winter, how about canvas over the plant like a tent .?
Thank you all in advance

I have hardy banana 'musa basjoo', too!... they will not survive winter, a COLD winter, in a pot.... they should be inside or planted......

to remove a pup, wait until it's nearly three ft tall.... it must be that size before it will have enuff of it's own roots to survive... cut in one quick slice, thru between the mother plant and the pup..... have some mud on hand.... cover both wounds with wet mud.... plant the baby and keep it well watered!!....feed the mother plant and also keep it well watered after you refill the pot with soil where you took out the pup.....if there are a number of pups available, take only one or two from the same side of the parent tree.... don't try to remove more, the main tree can't take it..... for winter, sink the pot in the soil and mulch it heavily with leaves, branches, whatever, up to about two feet off the ground.... cut the tops off the plants, by making an angled cut about two ft up, too.... don't go any shorter, cuz you take the chance of damaging the growing tip where the leaves will unfold next year....next spring, after the danger of frost is gone, take the plant out of the ground still in it's pot and let it get going again with plenty water and a few good feeds..... it's a great plant!!!... best of luck to you and thank you for your service, dear heart!!!....
