The two best are Malory's "Mort D'Arthur" and White's "The Once and Future King" which is based on Malory. It is worth learning to read late Middle English in which Malory wrote his work.

I never read it, but "Mists of Avalon" is the Arthurian legend told from a female perspective.

Also Mary Stewart's trilogy (Crystal Cave is one of the books in the trilogy, can't think of the other titles at the moment).
