I don't worry about looking 20, because that wasn't such a great time in my life. But, I do embrace being 48! I 'm kind of vane, I suppose, so I want to look good at 40, 50, 60, and up! I take vitamins: key to healthy skin and hair. Plus , great for insides! I make sure I have calcium, fruits, veggies, water. I'm a housekeeper, so I work off lots of calories! I don't have a real flat tummy, but flat enough to have a belly button piercing! I do take antidepressents for my mood disorder, so it keeps me optimistic. I love being a gramma and people thinking the children are mine. My oldest child is 26! I try to keep an open mind and go out of my way to help others whenever I can. I won't grow old gracefully in the sense that I'm shopping for rocking chairs! My parents seem to convert to geriactric in their thirties and they are unhappy 70 year olds! I knew a woman 93, who was beautiful! She learned the computer at 92! I know a couple in their 70's, who sold their home, bought a Winnebago so they could travel the country! I love being this old, could do without the perimenopause tho. Ugh! But, I'm healthy and content, but again, not too content to try something new and discover new adventure!....So, Dianne, time to get well, get happy, and go out and grab that brass ring kiddo!!!!!!

Every age has it's advantages.
Personally I love my 40's and haven't lost my figure, don't plan to any time soon either because I pay attention to my health and I get lots of exercise.
With years often comes confidence that we never had in our youth, many women are more beautiful as they age than they ever were as a young girl, so my answer is that many women don't have to "handle" anything, they just enjoy the aging process.
Consider the alternative, either we age or we no longer exist.
We should be greatful for each day we live.

Hi Dianne,
Do you want to get younger, or just handle the decline?
If you're serious about taking some action, I have great news for you.
The anti-aging business is alive and well, and there are lots of things you can do.
One of the key areas is to detoxify and get great nutrition.
I'm sure you know that exercise helps enormously.
You can also do a lot to moderate the changes that menopause brings with natural therapies too (I've actually done this with great success).
I use a detoxifying natural product called Natural Cellular Defense (liquid zeolite) and I take lots of nutritional supplements.
There is a great website which will tell you a lot more.

All the best

Unfortunately this is something most every American woman over the age of 30 has felt at 1 time or another. It saddens me that the well meaning answers you've received to this question are not even about how to conquer the unrealistic feeling of indadequacy but they're still buying into it. "Here's how you can change your looks "(meaning they're inadequate as they are). This is just feeding the problem...How can you be happier? How about if you focus on your looks even more- instead of self-development/intellect-and inject botulism into your veins. That can't be the answer. No harm intended to the woman who wrote that. She's a prime example of us and the sh_t we come across. Here are some suggestions..Make a list of all of your gifts.Every woman has many if she's paying attention.Write as many as you can..good listener, chef, grandmother, employee, scholar, etc..Know that with time and every wrinkle you get these qualities are only getting better.Read, "The Beauty Myth,".I listen to the song, "This one's for the girls,".If you have any time at all, help others "less fortunate"if you will.1 of the best remedies for depression is getting out of self-centered fear by getting out of self and thinking and helping others. When I leave a retirement home knowing that I've made a great difference in their lives I feel good. Not only that but I'm grateful that I'm not, "less fortunate".I've tried to accept my slight weight gain because I refuse to eat lettuce w/out dressing for breakfast, lunch, and dinner for the rest of my life.I read of cultures that revere women.(go pharoahs!), of cultures that revere the elderly over everyone else for their infinite wisdom and guidance. This reminds me that it's the attitude of our society- not me that's off.I read books like Naomi Wolf's, "The Beauty Myth,".Therapy helps.I think most everyone could use a good therapist.I ask myself at the end of the day, not how many pounds should I lose but how many people may I help throughout my day tomorrow to make this world a slightly better place and to make my stay here meaningful because I'm sorry but lipo will not a meaningful woman make...and when all else fails I pray, pray, pray!
