You have some protection against the abuses that employers perpetrate against their employees. As a united group, workers who are supported by the union have the power to negotiate with employers on equal footing. It evens out the balance of power in workplace relations.

Get to slack off and call it work, stand around complaining about the company that you work for, instead of actually working, collect a hideously high wage which forces your employer to outsource, and have no say, as the majority rules... i forgot pandering to the DNC...
