If there are no complications, they will usually wait until 2 weeks past your due date. After 42 weeks, there is a risk of the placenta giving out and not providing for the baby. Every doctor has his/her own comfort zone and sometimes, it just depends on their vacation schedule;) Try to wait on natural labor, pitocin, the drug used to induce labor is no fun!! Instead of the contractions building up steam slow and steady and giving your body a chance to adapt....once the pitocin kicks in, it's killer contractions all of a sudden!

It depends where you live, your past pregnanyc history and also how sure you are of your dates and if that is backed up by scan date. Usually pregnancy last 40 weeks and doctors allow up to 2 weeks before inducing woman as being induced is not as natural as going into labour yourself and can be more painful or have comlications. However usually after 42 weeks the placenta starts to stop working so it is best to get the baby out than risk waiting.
With my second son I was 19 days overdue when I went into labour by myself, due to a previous section the docs did not want to induce me, I would have had another section that week if hadn't started off myself.
If there are medical complications then you could get induced/section much earlier.

Depends on the medical condition of you and your baby - such as low amniotic fluid or a large baby. My mom went 3 weeks past her due date. They tried to induce at 2 weeks and my sister just wouldn't come so they sent her some (luckily they didn't break her water or she would have ended up having a c-section). Going natural is an easier labor than being induced.

Your doctor will make that decision depending on several things-- the size of the baby & especially it's head. The position of the baby. The progress you are making with dilating and effacment. Also.........if your mucus plug is in place and it your water hasn't broken. He may let you continue to carry the baby. It also depends on if the baby has.....as we say...dropped. Is it engaging down? or does the baby have a ways to decend? The doctor will compare the size of your pelvic bones dimentions so that you can deliver the baby without any problem.
The doctor will carefully watch your weight and blood pressure. He will also consider if you have had a baby before or if you have a long drive to the hospital.
Trust your doctor. Be sure and ask questions so that you feel comfortable with the delay.
Some of us make babies quick than other. Some need more days past due date. My babies were all two weeks early and averaged 9 pounds. My doctor sayed that I cooked my little ones guickly.

I know you're probably uncomfortable and ready to go, but don't rush into being induced...if this is your first baby you can go up to two weeks past your due date...try to stay relaxed, take walks, have sex (semen softens the cervix), and just take these last few days to make sure everything is ready...remember, the baby will come when its ready!!! Take advantage of the last few days of rest you will get before you have a little one to take care of!!! Best of luck!

it easily relies upon on how huge the toddler is, and if there are the different overriding circumstances. If no longer brought about in time, the probability of C-section is two times as probably. to boot, there is often threat to fetus in a placed up-term being pregnant (over 40 two weeks) - placenta growing to be old, low amniotic fluid, meconium aspiration, hypoglycemia, and so on. So, extremely than taking a risk and going as long as 40 two weeks or over, the docs in many cases do unlike going previous 40-one weeks. greater appropriate and safer to be early than late, if over 40 weeks. If we've been on your place, we would circulate with scientific professional's advice. with a bit of luck, there only isn't a desire and toddler comes out certainly earlier that. stable success.
