Can't disagree with the coast, from Sonoma Co up to the border. Big Sur is fabulous.
But I am very partial to the Eel River valley. And up Grizzly Creek way... There is no place on earth as beautiful as a mature oldgrowth redwood forest.

One of my favorite drives is from Truckee to Auburn on highway 880..Mts, pine trees, Truckee river and Donner lake.
Another is hwy 5 between Redding and Yreka, pine trees, Mt. Shasta and Lake Shasta.
