I am traveling with my 3 children for 8 months. We are studying US History and Geography. I want them to go places in New England (Boston Tea Party, Liberty Bell, Gettysburg, etc). I am looking for ideas of interesting places to take them that don't cost very much but that will give them a true appreciation for American History. My kids ages are; 6,9,12.

If you stick a pin in Thomas Jefferson's' house outside of Charlottesville VA and drew a circle with about a 150 mile radius , within the area of the circle a lot of American History took place .
Before i work on this routing tell me where you're starting from and when you plan to be there because weather could be an issue

Buy a National Parks pass, and look at the list of sites. You'll save bunches of money and have a ready-made list of destinations.

Boston/Washington/Philadelphia/New York are obvious places to go. Washington has plenty of free attractions.
