Chronicles of Narnia, Series of Unfortunate Events. Things like that. But I LOVE the Harry Potter books! They're all so great. The 7th installment was the best. Really amazing! I've never had so much emotion reading a book like I did when I read Deathly Hallows. It rocks. Jo Rowling deserves all the praises in the world. :D

Harry Potter is the best.

We (my daughters & I) have been enjoying a number of series while waiting for the next Harry Potter to come out. I recommend the following series:

Pendragon by DJ MacHale
Charlie Bone by Jenny Nimmo
Ranger Apprentice by John Flanagan
So you want to be a Wizard series by Diane Duane
Twlight, New Moon and Eclipse by Steph Meyers

and the list goes on and on. There are thousands of great books and authors out there....READ ON!!!

Only the Lord of the Rings and other books Tolkien wrote. Actually, I like Tolkien's quite a bit more than I liked Rowling's. Tolkien's the only one who invented a whole world that I can believe in (I mean when I am reading it, I don't stop to think, this cannot possibly be; the minute the readers fall into disbelief, the fantasy is shattered). Rowling's books were a bit too rushed for me (I mean, there are too many plot holes, and other things seem to be added in there so that the author can conveniently answer questions that we had or explain things to Harry)

i completely agree iwht the first answer. the golden compass series, by Philip Pullman. is an amazing trilogy that is now being made into a movie. the 2nd and 3rd books are the sublte knife and the amber spyglass respectively.

eragon and eldest by christopher paolini are part of another amazing trilogy that is still incomplete.

younger readers might also enjoy the 5 book series charlie bone by jenny nimmo although i found its ending dissapointing.

hope that helps :)

"The Diamond in the Window" by Janet Langton
"The Scarlet Pimpernel" by Baroness Orczy
"The Three Musketeers" By Alexandre Dumas (The BOOK, not the MOVIE. The Book is way better.)
"The Count of Monte Cristo" by Alexandre Dumas
"Under the Tuscan Sun" by Frances Mayes
"The Secret Garden" By Frances Hodgson Burnett (it is worth it to read the book)
"Emil and the Detectives" by Erich Kastner (I know, it's 3rd grade, but it is still one resourceful young man.)
"The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy" and etc by Douglas Adams
I could go on and on...
