I know lots of people talk about it, and I believe it's theoritically possilbe, just that it hasn't ever happened.

Am I missing something, or is there any legitimate record of orientation being changed?

my mom thinks there is, and keeps sending me articles and whatnot, trying to get me to change. personally, i think the people who say they've converted are just lying to themselves, and everyone else, so they don't have to face the guilt of their "sin".

In my personal opinion, gayness can be either born with or it's due to upbringing. Those that are truly 'born gay' cannot be cured. If they say they are cured, they are only suppressing their true feelings. Living in lies is easier to them than having to carry the burden of guilt and others' expectations of how they should live.

On the other hand, those who became gay thru 'circumstances' like childhood trauma, family pblms, sexual abuse/molest etc could possibly be 'cured' eventhough it's difficult.

However, whether you are gay by 'nature' or by 'nurture', I don't see the need to change anything because you are what you are. It doesn't matter HOW you become what you are. Because you did not choose to be this way. It's not like it's a crime or anything..

One of the most outspoken people claiming that they were "cured" was John Paulk, who became active with the anti-gay groups Focus on the Family and Exodus.

He was "cured" to the point that, after marrying and having children, he went to the Washington D.C. gay bar Mr. P's where he purchased drinks for other bar patrons for over an hour and later claimed he did not know it was a gay bar and only entered to use the restroom.

Paulk is no longer a spokesperson for Exodus or Focus on the Family. I wonder why...

It's all such a bunch of crap that some supposedly religious guy made up (in my opinion to make money off of insecure people who have been taught that homosexuality is wrong)

I've seen the video of how this guy helps "cure" gay people. One of his methods consists of hitting a pillow with some kind of tennis racket and yelling at it. He's also told gay people to watch more sports and drink gatorade. I don't see any reasoning to why this would "cure" anyone.

The guys is just like George Bush. He claims to use God as his basis for his actions, but all he's helping is himself by making his pockets fatter. Don't believe the crap.

These people claim to, but I don't believe it: http://www.loveinaction.org Check out the article about them in this month's Jane magazine.

*As a testament to Love in Action's methods and effectiveness, I'll give you a sampling of what is considered contraband at their workshops:

Calvin Klein or Abercrombie and Fitch merchandise
Strongly-scented hygiene products
Hair dye
Spandex or Lycra
Personal Journals
Porn

At the teen workshops, residents are not permitted to talk outside of group time.

i just started reading a book called "is it a choice" by... i forget.... heh
and apparently in the past people have tried to cure it by giving men a painful electric shot after showing them an erotic picture of another man. that is no doubt associated with conditional response or whatever thats called (with pavlovs dog and whatnot)
and i think during that time people would try to mix weird medicines together to try to "cure" it
none of them worked of course, and now scientists are looking deeper into the brain to see if it is genetic (which i think it is somewhat)
so, in summary, meathods have been tried, and none of them worked, because homosexuality im (at least partly) genetic.

Their whole "theory" is flawed..they say gay men spent too much time with their mamas and that lesbians played too many sports...
I should be the straightest "guy" in the world, given how I was raised. After thirty years of drinking and drugging to deal with it, I accepted that i was transgendered....
Maybe all the guys on the high school rifle team are gay or Trans....

There have been people tortured so bad in the past, that they have finally said "OK! I am straight now, STOP!!" Just so people would stop physically and mentally torturing them. But like people above me have said, Being Gay is not a disease that can be just cured.

if you want scientific evidence, then no. if you want annoying faith based lies, then yes.

I wonder about all those people who say they were cured. are they lying to themselves now? were they bi and just went off with a woman instead of a guy?

I've been through some of those aversion therapies (thanks mom and moms 2nd husband) and all they did was make me totally bitter against christianity and want to kick their god square in the.... well you get the picture.

first of all, the fact that it isn't a disease means it cannot be cured. it is a fact, however, that there are extreme, right-wing "fake" Christians who tout "reparative therapy" as a cure. it's nothing but attempted brain-washing through mental and even physical abuse. all they really want is for us to lie to ourselves and everyone else and pretend to be something that we are not. which would make them happy, but make us miserable. and, isn't lying a sin?
sorry, I am the way God created me...and He loves me just fine, thank you!

well...for sure being gay isnt a choice...i mean...with all the crap that the any LGBT person has to go through makes you hurt very bad inside and people can be so mean, ugly and spiteful to you if you are LGBT...why would someone choose to live a life of discrimination in the first place if they had a choice.
