No, I am not a vegetarian and I love roast turkey, but just wanted some suggestions RE: veggies. Other side dish suggestions would also be appreciated.

Some must haves;
green bean casserole with French's onions and mushroom soup
sweet potato casserole with lots of those little marshmallows
home-made mashed potatoes with the skins left on and sour cream mixed in
corn with red peppers finely chopped in
a good mix of cheesy broccoli & cauliflower
King's Hawaiian Honey Wheat Rolls with real butter (it's OK to have it every now and then)
A nice side salad - Romaigne, shredded carrots, cukes, mushrooms, cherry tomoatos, radishes, shredded cheese, blue cheese crumbles, roasted garlic crutons.

After all that, do you have any room for the turkey? Oh yeah that's right, Thanksgiving is a two plate holiday!
Unsnap your pants and enjoy!

Oh yeah, don't forget the can of cranberry sauce right out of the can so that it keeps that jiggly shape. Evenif I would never touch the slimy stuff. It's tradition.

Make sure you don't stray too far from tradition on Thanksgiving. People are expecting the usual meal. My mom once made an orange glazed turkey (what was she thinking???!!!!!!) and has yet to hear the end of it. So make sure you make the traditional favorites, like green bean casserole and cranberry sauce, and whatever else is tradition in your family, and try just one new side dish. My mother in law made this sweet potato casserole last year, it was delicious! Or steamed squash would be good too.

I don't actually like green beans all that much, but at Thanksgiving we always have a kind that I love. Get the french cut ones and before you start cooking them, cook some cut up bacon and onion in a skillet, then simmer the green beans, bacon, onion, pepper, and other spices of your choice all together. They are awesome and most people like them even if they don't like green beans normally.

Scalloped corn, here's the recipe

2 cans of creamed corn
1 egg
1 cup milk
noodles
salt and pepper

Combine the creamed corn, egg, milk, salt and pepper
boil noodles then add to mixture, put in oven at 350 degrees for about 1 and a half hour.

roasted squash would be nice, homemade cranberry sauce is good side dish. I make glazed carrots with parsley, and corn on the cob and roasted acorn squash. that takes the longest and i cook it with the turkey for about the same amount of time...

I don't know if you have ever tried the roast before but I made one once and it's not like the cutlets and it wasn't very good in my opinion. Why not forget the fake meat and make something like baked stuffed acorn squash? I stuff mine with seasoned wild rice along with sauteed onions, raisins and chopped walnuts. It's easy and really good. Along with that I make some traditional sides.

Greenbeans, with bacon, mixed in. Also, the traditional sweet potato cannot be beat. Corn is also another traditional side dish.
