Matt,
The 1st thing you need to do is think "positive"...if you convince yourself that you will do fine, then you in a sense are going to work harder to achieve that....

since you already picked out your classes for this fall, find out what the curriculum outline is going to be and start doing your research on the different courses you will be taking...be organized in your approach once your classes begin..do not let yourself fall behind on any of the courses you will be taking (try not to miss any days of school) in math it is vital that you do not do this), speak to you school counselor and see if you can lessen your course load, find out about free tutoring the school might be offering (or study groups)...Be Pro-active and you will succeed!

But most important BE POSITIVE, do not let your fears get in the way of accomplishing your goals...fear is a negative energy you are sending out to the world and when you send out negative energy you are going to receive the same energy back...think to yourself "I am going to do great this year", "I can't wait to school starts"..

The fact that you were accepted and enrolled in a Pre-Med program tells me you are a pretty smart guy (and have accomplished quite a bit)..Now we just have to get YOU to start believing in yourself and start thinking that way...

You will do fine...Best of luck!

You will never know unless you try. More than anything it is determination that will get you through. If you really want it and are willing to work hard you can do it. You may feel overwhelmed at times, but have some confidence in yourself and remember that colleges always have resources available to help you accomplish whatever you need too.

Don't forget to relax some and have fun though. If you are going to be stressed like 24/7 then I would say it's not for you!

Now stop worrying and psych yourself up to be an amazingly awesome pre-med. Kick some butt!

If you start having problems, you get help. I'm sure Stony Brook has a tutoring program, and you can go to the professor for help. Everyone has trouble with something; you just have to know when it is going to get beyond you and go for help when you need it.

I have been teaching for decades, and the biggest problems I have are with students who, once they start to have trouble, hide. They stay away from class, avoid me, and don't contact anyone else in the class. In the long run, they fail. If they were just to say, "Help me" early enough, most of the difficulties could be avoided.

Matt,
I am sure you will do great. College can be very scary. When I first started my Associates degree in Business. I wanted to quit in one of my first two classes, but I said screw it I am going to just do the best that I can and be proud of myself for that. It went on and on like that. It is surprising how good a person does if they really care about the course. Just do your best and if you feel you are having trouble in a certain area hire a tutor to help you. I am sure you will do fine. Really caring how you do is key in doing good, and if you do fail you can always take the course over and over until you do pass. Good luck and God bless you.

Start of by immediately finding a tutor in the class(es) you are having problems in. You should also find some others who are equally worried and study with them. Don't miss classes, even recitation sessions, just because you want to party or work or whatever. You'll be fine if you do these things.

If possible try and reduce the amount of classes you are taking. Or at least switch some subjects around if your taking a load that's too much at one time.
