To tell the truth i would go with some of the previous answerers because the last Hsrry Potter is certainly the best book i have read this summer but i have read plenty if you want a specific genre like suspense or tragedy or just a plain good author with books about people of all ages turning around there life i would read Kate Morgenroth's "Jude" or "Kill me First" if you want any other books just contact me

Just published in 2006, "The American Home Front, 1941-1942", by Alistair Cooke. This book gives the reader a wonderful picture of what the USA was like 65 years ago. Cooke travelled the entire country from east to south to west to north and back east again, during WWII, interviewing people and getting a good picture of what each area was like. No publisher wanted the book when it was done in 1942, so he put the manuscript in his closet & forgot about it. Subsequently, he became famous, and publishers became eager to have it. I highly recomend this book to anyone with an interest in what America was like back then.

His Dark Materials, the entire trilogy. Best books ever. The movie is coming out for the first book in December. It's going to be even better that Harry Potter or Lord of the Rings because the books definitely were.

Angela's Ashes
It was about a poor Irish boy who grew up in the poorest part of the city. It was always wet there and most of the times cold. They barely had food to survive. His dad would spend the money he made on beer at the pub. As he grew up he got jobs and saved up his money to go to the United States. He finally made it here and he became a teacher and wrote a book called, "Angela's Ashes".
It was a good book.
