Quite honestly, the term Christian conservative is a political oxymoron. True conservatives believe in following the Constitution in a strict constructionist fashion, and I'm pretty sure they are for the separation of Church and State. The so called "Christian conservatives" want to rule the United States from the pulpit, and that's something no true conservative would ever be party to.

We can go back to the days of Teddy Roosevelt and his refusal to allow the words In God We Trust to be placed on US currency. He, being a conservative, didn't want anything to do with Christianity involved with the US Government. He, also being a devout Christian, didn't think he wanted something as sacred as his faith to be used by the government either.

He scores two points on that.

Bush, however, scores no points. He's not a conservative, and he damn sure isn't a Christian, despite what he says. What he really is...is a mystery. Well, not really.

He's like one of the later Communist party apparatchiks that just mouthed the words from Das Kapital at the little Party get-togethers as a means of attaining power. You don't have to believe in it, hardly anyone else did that had the power to check up on you, and if you convinced enough of the right people that you did believe, you got the keys to the city. The only thing George W. Bush is interested in is power. Mr. Skull and Bones to the bitter end.

I think Bush used his "faith" to win votes from conservative right wing interest groups. I think Bush knew that this demographic was the Rupublican Patry's bread and butter and to woo them would be to assure himself a second term. So he jumped on the bandwagon with gay rights and abortion and stem cells... all the hot-button topics that conservatives love to scream about. But since his re-election, I've heard not one word about any of it. All we hear now is "the surge" and how he'll veto any bills the Democrats try to pass regarding funding for the Iraqi war.

I guess that's a long way for me to say that he didn't so much fake it as much as he did toss it around. I don't doubt Bush was raised a Christian by parents who had some sort of moral fiber in tact. I never had much against his father other than the fact that he was a rather impotent leader. But W is far beyond that. He's smug, insensitive, ill-informed and lacks any integrity. He's a dishonest man who believes his power and his friends make him invincible. Now I've never met him and I've never picked his brain on spirituality, but I'm pretty sure a decent Christian doesn't act like that.

I think Christian conservatives do a good enough job making themselves look bad. With all of their hatred and intolerance towards gays and pregnant teenagers, they actually still think they are acting in the interest of other Christians. The only thing is, what they're doing and what they're saying is about as unChristian as you can get. They have no concept of grace. They have no concept of mercy.

I ask you, what is Christianity without grace and mercy? If I'm not mistken, those are two of the few things that distinctfully separates Christianity from all other religions.

Bush gives Americans a bad name

I think his failed administration gives everything he is associated with a bad name, including conservatism and the Republican party. I'm sure Christianity can survive without him, but when he says God led him into the mess in Iraq, one has to wonder about God, or Bush's stability.

Who cares if he's a christian. Christians are fools. Anyone who believes in a mythological being that grants wishes is a buffoon.

And G. Bush is one of the biggest douchebags in our country - and he is a disgrace and a stain upon mankind.

He's very socially conservative, and did not lie about that when he ran for President. That's exactly why I didn't vote for him, but he made it perfectly clear that he is against abortion, stem cell research, etc. Every one of his speeches is peppered with God referrences.

I don't think he's pretending. I think he's just nuts.

I think you people won't know what to do with yourselves once he's out of office in a year and change. This sick obsession you have with blaming every little thing that goes wrong on this one little man will have to end. Who will you replace him with? Will you look at yourself in the mirror and wonder what changes you need to make in your own lives, or continue to use others as whipping posts to make yourselves feel better? The hate is going to eat you alive, people. Just put it behind you and move forward. Ok, he wasn't a good president. But it's almost over. Look ahead, not back.
