The last time I checked, Steve Nash and Dirk Notwitzki were white and were both the regular season MVP's in the last 3 years. Kirk Hinrich is ascending towards All-Star status and so is Mike Miller. David Lee is making a name for him in New York. Andrea Bargnani will become a superstar in this league in a few years. Mike Bibby and Jason Kidd (half white) have done well proven themselves in this league so if you ask me, there are white american superstars in the NBA. You just have to open your eyes.

It's simple. Black players are simply much better than whites. Ok, I'm playing. The real reason there aren't that many white American superstars in the NBA is because it is not thought of as a way to improve your life. For instance a player like JJ Redick who was all world at Duke, is not going to be the next Larry Bird. I mean let's look at it. Bird went to Indiana State and is from a town named French Lick. It's a small town. I'm not sure where Redick is from(somewhere northeast I believe), but he went to Duke. Let's face it, you go to Duke to do well on the collegiate level and graduate on go on into your chosen field of study. Obviously there are a few exceptions. North Carolina has 3 times the amount of players in the NBA than Duke. It's academic standards are good, but Duke is a rich boys' school. Anyway, so that is your answer. If you want a white superstar in the NBA, he is gonna have to come up like most of the superstars in the NBA, with not much money.

Hey Steve, dude asked about white American players. Steve Nash is Canadian. Lawrence, Jason Kidd is not white. Wolves fan, Mike Bibby is not white.

People have said Mike Bibby, as well as Jason Kidd (who is clearly a star). Don't forget Kirk Hinrich of the Bulls either.

There aren't many though, because basketball has grown heavily on the black demographic, whereas many white kids are interested in action sports (where there are few black stars) or non-team sports like golf, tennis, car racing, etc. Also, this may be politically incorrect, but the reality is that black people are better athletes than white people. I am not sure why that is insulting or rude, really it is a clear fact. The percentage of blacks in baseball has been notably low compared to recent yeaars, and it still is proportionately unbalanced when you compare that number to the percentage of black people in America compared to white.

Because they didn't come near their potentials coming into NBA. There are many fine examples of these players: Keith Van Horn, Adam Morrison, Chris Kaman, Brent Barry, Luke Jackson to name a few.
They became passive, afraid to take the risk during games especially crunch time. They lost their swagger, their fighting spirit and contented to become the 3rd, 4th, 5th options in offense or just a role player.
But this can't be said to some Europeans, Argentinian, Canadian players. A good example of these players are Manu Ginobili, Steve Nash, Pau Gasol, Manuel Calderon, Andre Kirelinko and sometimes Dirk Nowitzki. They are their team focal point in offense, coaches have trust on them to take matters into their hands if need arises.
Please take note of this, Jason Kidd & Mike Bibby are not pure whites.

Sadly, the answer is $$$. In America, the average white kid grows up with more money than an average black kid. Because of this, white children are more likely to play sports that cost more money. Entry to private golf courses, tennis courts, etc is not accessible to many inner city black kids On the other hand, basketball, which only requires a $10 ball and a basketball court (of which every city has plenty), can be played by just about everyone. It's amazing that people talk more about the lack of white players in basketball than the abundance of white players in just about every other sport,

If Steve Nash isn't a superstar, he's damn close. I believe he's been the league MVP once or twice.

BTW - Dirk Nowitski is German, I believe
