I don't blame you for being scared, Jelly Fish do sting and when you are stung by one it hurts like HeL L !! if you do get stung by one you have to get to the nearest ER as soon as you can because when they sting your they give off this dye substance from them that can be harmful to you. be careful! They live in Salt water regardless of location.

DO NOT PEE ON THE STING IT DOES NOT WORK KEEP IT IN SALT WATER!!! call an medic! most jellyfish around here are not poisonous, if you put fresh water on your sting the barbs will contract and it will hurt more the salt water will keep the barbs open and easy to take out.

But you have a right to be scared, i wouldn't worry too much though they only sting with their tentacles and their tentacles drag they aren't fast movers either

Why didn't you descirbe the jellyfish? If you had done it we could tell you whether it stings or not. Not all types sting, not all are dangerous. Some just look nasty :)

The Eastern coast ..like near N.carolina is silly with multiple kinds of jellyfish and so is the GUlf.
