I don't mean the trolls who give one or two word insults - I mean a genuine decent user answers your question in a negative, rude fashion (but without trolling) because they don't agree with you. Why should they be so harsh and judgmental? The questioner only asked an honest question without insulting or attacking anyone.

Just ignore them. There are to many rude people to worry about their harshness.

Hey Chuck, if they can not recognise a honest question, then they are not worth your time or emotion and perhaps you better simply ignore it - I admit this is difficult.

At the other side of the spectre there are always people that reply nicely even to the most rude or ridiculeous question, and want to help that person. It's all about how well you can read between the lines - whether you have the talent to go for the feel of the question rather then the string of words.

For the pure all is pure.

Don't Buy Into Their Negativity Because It Will Only Affect You, Many People Like That Know What They're Doing And If They Sense Its Working Then They Will Keep It Up, Just Let It Roll Off Your Back Like Water..

They're harsh and judgmental because they're either afraid of what you're saying or just don't understand. The best thing to do is just forget about it. Some people are just rude and the rest of us have to deal with it.

They do that because they think of certain forums as their territory and are quick to censure (and otherwise attempt to drive out) anyone with an alternative opinion on a topic. Human beings do this in realtime too, but with the anonymiity of the Internet, people are far more likely to do it in places like this. They feel they are part of a group and they themselves won't allow anyone to deviate too far away from the party line -- including themselves.

How do you deal with them? Ignore their answers and take solace from those who seriously answered your question.

I'm one of those who welcomes all opinions, but if the answer is insulting and baseless, I hit bad answer. I seldom as I'm not into censorship, report someone for abuse. However, if it is mean spirited, I'm quick to click bad answer. Then, I move on. Have a nice day.

I have gone to the offenders page and emailed them. My 'personalized' comments have never been responded to. We live in the age of the casual insult. One can give he finger from their car and safely drive off. A direct confrontation usually scares the kiddies off.

I suggest you 'consider the source.' If this is someone you have littlle or no respect for, their words and attitudes shouldn't affect you. After all, an insult is like a shot of whiskey. It can only affect you if you accept it.

Keep your cool and post a "Thank you for your kindness" comment. People like this do not learn, because of their prejudice, that others are entitled to have different opinions. But if you continue to be kind maybe they won't feel so self-righteous about their own statements.

I think it is wise just to ignore them. This is a public forum and unfortunately not everyone is going to be nice so you just have to let the mean comments roll off your back.
