all these parents trying to come up with unique names are failing to think of this...
"Does it fit a 2 year old?
Does it fit a 20 year old?
Does it fit a 40 year old?
Does it look good on paper...ie...will it stand out on a job application? Does it look/sound professional?"
(to quote an answer from another ?)
these parents are dooming thier kids with this whackado names they come up with. think of the teasing. the looks your child will get. the constant needing to pronounce the name.
give your kid a messed up middle name if you insist on being unique... but leave the first name alone.
let it be something decent, understandable, normal.
something that when they get in to school they won't get made fun of, something that when they get in to the work force an employer will look at them and say yeah strong name i bet they are a strong person. not strange name bet they are a strange person.

Nothing is wrong with the common spelling of names but some parents feel that the name is too common or too used and they would like to change it a little or use an alternantive- not so common way of spelling the name , in order to make it a little bit unusual or more unique. I suppose spelling a name differently makes it interesting. Some can grow to hate their name or / and the spelling of it but then again some can grow to love it just as well!!

I like unique names too, I could do w/o the crazy spellings, but a different variation is nice too.....but let me tell you, I have a very SIMPLE last name and so many people screw it up. I seriously don't understand why it's so hard to pronounce my last name. My first name, on the other hand, Aja, unless you know the Steely Dan album, barely anyone gets my name right. My parents didn't make this name up......but I'm glad to have a unique name!!!

I agree with the unusual spelling. It just make the name look weird, it wouldn't pronounce the same as the original spelling, and nobody will know how to pronounce it. The way to do it is get a unusual unique name that is easy to pronounce.

I feel like saying, good for you, you can spell something phonetically! ;)
A name doesnt make your child unique or special, and honestly, I think a lot of these poor kids are going to be taken less seriously for college, jobs, etc A name doesnt necessarily affect who your child is going to become (for instance, McKenzee or Mahree Smith can both be neurosurgeons, but I would probably call Ann Smith first. But, thats just my opinion!

I dont get it either. I love myname..simple and easy to spell. I think everyone is trying to be so different that it makes it akward. The baby will be different from any other baby so why do you feel the need to name them mahree and such. Noone thinks about these things when naming a child. WHen they grow up will it fit them? Dont name someone Kodyn...because when their 40 their going to feel stupid.

I don't understand the different spelling of names, like my sister, she wanted to name her baby Kaitlyn Lauryn, I thought it was a really dumb name with a dumb spelling. Lauren not Lauryn, plus it didn't flow, luckily she got over that name. I like unique names, but a lot of unique names are hard to pronounce, so I tend to like unique names that are easy to pronounce, like Adia, Moya, or Imogen and for the boys Brennan, Aden, and Liam, they're names you don't hear everyday, but they're not way out there.

i like names that are "unique" lol but when people do that maree or marrii thing..i hate it..most of the times it sounds dumb..so i agree with you on that but i like names that sound different and not so common..like i know about a hundred samanthas and katies and britneys already♥ ♥

I totally agree with you. What if this baby wants to run for senate, or be a judge, or go live in another country or... who knows. Many of these names become a burden and are plain ridiculous.

I agree, having been badly bullied myself I feel so bad for these poor children that are being set up for teasing and maybe worse at school. Apart from the fact that you can never tell how to pronounce their names anyway.
