I recently rescued 1 male about 8" and 2 others that are 4" that I was pretty sure were female but lately I've been seeing them waving at each other like males do during courtship. The 2 4" RES have skinny tales and short claws like females should. Their ages are unknown. Do females sometimes do that too or are my 2 turtles just juvenile males that haven't matured yet?

They dont fight and they all eat great. If I saw them fighting or one stressed out I would seperate them but they dont seem to have a problem with one another.

Female turtles do it too. My yellow belly and res do it all the time. I asked the vet about the female wave thing and he said it was just a sign that they like one another. It might me a sign of domination as well. So I hope that helps. Depends on the turtles and their personalities.

Turtles that are stressed, overcrowded, or aggressive do it as well.

The tank rule of thumb is 10 gallons of water per inch of shell length, so you need about a 160 gallon pond to minimize crowding and aggression issues.

hey mytical star that is not a sign that they like each other it is a domonation thing who is in charge unless it is male and female that is a courting thing and if the female declines they could fight
