It's been my dream since I was 10 to go to Princeton. I'm going into my sophmore year of high school. I'm playing violin, piano, a varsity sport, an out of school sport, humane issues club, french club, and hospital volunteer work... Much more than I did last year. I'm also taking 4 advanced classes this year, (I usually make all As and one or two Bs.) What else do I need to do to get into an ivy league school. Especially Princeton... I know you need good test scores, extracurriculars, and such, but is there anything else I need to know or should I still be doing more??

Any stories, help, comments would be useful...

Something that will set you out from the crowd. Something unique. So try to win an award that few people win or do an activity that few people do. Don't stretch yourself too far out with the activities--if you have to many, it will look bad to the universities because it looks like you aren't getting heavily involved in them. Try to get a leadership position in one of your clubs.

That said, don't get too hooked to your dreams. Even if you don't get into Princeton, I'm sure you'll still land on your feet.

Extracurriculars are important -- but doing more than you do now won't help much.

Graduating in the top 10% of your class with lots of AP classes, getting 2200 on your SATs and writing a killer essay are what will help you get in.

Make sure you get recommendations from people who know you. A letter from a teacher who knows you is better than a letter from a congressman or governor who has met you briefly.

WIth all of this, you will get into a great school. It may or may not be Princeton. When you apply to schools, visit the campuses and look around the town. You will find interesting things. For example, at most colleges, the stores across the street sell books, computer equipment and school clothing. There are fast food restaurants and cofee houses.

In Princeton, the stores across the street sell Wedgewood vases and Waterford crystal. You may find this is not what you want. The restaurants are high end French restaurants.

A good essay.

P.S. - I wouldn't dote on a school too much, especially if it's an Ivy League you've wanted to go to since forever. Lol. What would you do if you DIDN'T get in?

Dreams are meant to be broken. =[

How you do on your SATs, of course, will matter a lot. Also, a personal interview will probably be required. Even if it's not mandatory, you can request one. That can really help you if you shine at the interview.
