I work at a shoe store, and an older man (in his 50s) came in the store with a young woman who had to be in her early twenties. I thought they were father and daughter until the girl said her husband's birthday was coming up and she wanted my help with picking out some shoes. Then she gestured towards the older man and said that he was her husband.

I personally see nothing wrong with an older man dating a younger woman, and I'm sure they get a hard time from the public wherever they go, but I just want to know everyones opinion. What does everyone think about this?

When you are in love, age does not matter. My dad is 60 and he is now happily married to a women younger than me. I have never seen him so happy

My husband is 26 years older than me.We had a lot of people thinking he was my dad.
All our friends didnt have a problem with us and we were very happy at the start.
We have been married 14 years.
I never used to notice the age difference until the last few years.
I made big allowances for his age but he could never make allowances for me.
My husband became very controlling and paranoid.I would never of done anything to hurt him i have values and took our marriage seriously.
But the more controlling he became and paranoid he started to drink and sadley pushed me further and further away.
I left him but were still mates and i do look out for him but i couldnt go back.
But that is my story someone elses experiences could be totally different.
I would just like to say so many people jump to conclusions that the girl is only after the money.
I married for love not money my husband was bancrupt when i met him .

It isn't "wrong", but it is hard for this situation to be "right". Not saying it cannot happen, but once the dazzle has died down, what does a 50 year old man and a 20 year old woman have in common? They are emotionally and mentally in a different place in their life with different experiences and different priorities. If it is just for dating, I'm sure it is fine. If it becomes serious or turns into a long-term committment, it can be very difficult to stay on the same level emotionally.

I am exactly twenty, and the guy i am interested in is 38 years old. He graduated three days after the day I was born! Basicaly he could have children the same age as me or older! (thats not the case). At first it bothered me a bit, because I was affraid of what my friend and family would think. But than I looked at the way he treated me, and how much respect he showed me, and I decided I just didnt care. He is super sexy, mature, educated, and he treats me like a princess. Chemistry is just chemistry... and i've just learned to revel in it! Luckily he looks younger (because i look younger!) and so it doesnt look too bad to the outer world, but if it did, I'd still just hold his hand proudly and kiss him proudly and just smile at all the onlookers.

I am after him, for his personality and how he treats me.... but i'm sure there are older men that date younger girls for the prestige of being with someone younger and sexier...as i'm sure there are girls who are gold diggers. I think its a case by case situation.. but in my situation.. age just isnt an issue ;)

(besides the fact that he kicks my butt in trivia that includes early 80's and prior ;) )

One: follow the money. How much money does he have? maybe that is the motive more than simple love for each other.

Two: it could just be love, but later when he is 70 and tired of doing the things she finds fun, then what?

I know a girl who married a man about 20 years older than she is, for security, and she liked him. But now he doesn't do anything, he just goes home and sits. She's bored to tears. Later on in the relationship the age difference seems to make a bigger difference.
if she's okay with knowing that he will not keep up with her later, than, that's up to her.

I don't see a problem with it at all.
My Dad was 18 years older than my Mom.
Actually I think it could work out very well because men seem to mature slower than us (women).
So you figure if you date an older man, then you 2 should be at the same maturity level.
And that's a plus :D

When I was 21, I met a guy who was 35. He looked much much older than his age though which made it seem like an even larger age gap. Everywhere we would go people stare. I never thought it was a big deal but apparently more people found it amusing or weird than not. It eventually caused me to leave him because I guess I was just tired of being ridiculed. Its really sad too because he was a good guy!

I think that taboo has fallen to the wayside. I have a friend who is 50, married to a guy who is 26, and my boss is her 40's, involved for the past two years with a guy in his 20's. As far as I know, they have not been ostracized. Who's making the big deal ?

As long as they are happy, why not?
I can accept a man about 10 years elder than me. But according to survey, women are usually live longer than men, if so, I think it would be better to have a man younger than me.

i personally think that it is wrong but that is the girls fault normally they marry the older men so when they die they inherit their money. It is a real cruel thing to do but ya know that does not matter to them or maybe they really love the guy but it still is in my opinion slightly wrong
