I agree with Davewriter! I've been watching for a l-o-n-g time but recently have begged off on what may be more than an extended vacation.
I used to be able to laugh and cry with these characters; I used to find something uplifting or enlightening about Y/R, which is why it is the only soap I stuck with.
However, recent history has found characters as mere shadows of their former selves as they clump together to serve LML's many frustrated attempts at a believable interesting storyline. These little packages serve only their own ends and not the soap, or the community of GC, as a whole. In fact, many of these "sweet and sour boxed treats that are quick to eat" often lower the level of the TV community at large.
Y/R used to be a cut above, but now, is just another cut.

I've watched it from the early 80's. I don't love it though and don't think that it is getting good. I miss the old characters like Michael Damian and Laura Lee Bell.
I think some of the characters need to be written off because they don't add anything to the storyline.
I do still watch it though.

You are hooked............Number 1 daytime soap opera. But, it's all fantasy. Some of the writing is lame. For example...Kevin's g/f Jenna is underarrest in the mental ward of the hospital. Yet, she can receive guests that can walk right up to her unannouced. Also, she has access to a cell phone ...yeah, right! No way is this possible in the real world.

I agree with DaveWriter..I have watched this soap since its conception..this is a child to me..Phyllis is the best..Nick sucks..Sharon and he belong together..the new daughter of Brad is horrible (what happen to the old one..I read she was like let go?) Victor and Nikki need to go..tired of them..Bring back the old Drew she is marvelous..better yet let DaveWriter write for the characters..he seems to have a better grasp than current writers do..too many story lines and some of them are old and tired and boring..Jesus let the attorney and his wife at least kiss for longer than 3 seconds..Lauren is too talented and way too much fun to be put on the back burner..go for it Dave...

The Y&R is my favorite soap, and it's better than ever.
My only complaint is around Daniel and his
porn addiction/lies.I don't like the direction the Y&R has taken with Daniel's character,he is starting to get on my nerves!

I watch it, and I have to disagree with you about the writing. Lynn Marie Latham has hacked this show to death by introducing useless characters like Amber and freaking Cane. She has also been responsible for many ridiculous storylines (and dropping them,) from the Carmen Mesta trial to Daniel's porn fetish. Speaking of which, this is the very thing that has broken him and Lily up now, and divorce is inevitable. Thank God Neil had the balls to fire him over this porn thing crashing the computers at NVP. Daniel is simply detestable, as well as Nick.
Right now, the only saving grace for this show is Phyllis. Say what you will about her being around the block, but at least she had the class to make sure she was single when she was doing it. Unlike Sharon, who slept with Diego, and Cameron Kiersten while she was married to Nick. Oh, and she kissed her own husband's father like he was a human chocolate mousse, and let's not forget the time she took her sister-in-law's husband in a New York hotel room just days after Brad married Victoria. And don't get me started on Sharon's parenting. Abandoning your own children is one thing, but neglecting your son and sending him on countless sleepovers so you can feed your sexual appetite is something else entirely!
That Sharon creature literally makes my skin crawl. Shallow, insincere, phony, conniving, addle-brained, airheaded, two-faced, negligent, over-done, treacherous, licentious, promiscuous, unfaithful, unkempt, unprincipled, unscrupulous, lascivious, debauched TRAMP!! Now Nick is throwing Phyllis over because of this stupid amnesia storyline of Latham's, so Nick can trapped with Sharon in some enclosed space with temptation all around them? If this is one of the writing team's sick joke to get them back together - and if they succeed with this - then I will no longer watch this show past the opening credits. Nobody wants to see a romance that is as dull as day-old dishwater.
Nick has been so detestable lately, almost as bad as Daniel. Latham must either get Nick to smarten the hell up and beg Phyllis for her forgiveness, or have ol' Red pack up her stuff and Summer and move in with Michael and Lauren or to a classy hotel. She's too much of a woman to have to put up with this BS!
So, again, I must disagree with you about the writing of current. As a writer myself, I can come up with better storylines in my dreams.
