Are any of you 'emos'? Do you get pissed off when news reports can't pronounce it?

Are you acually sad, a wannabee, like being labelled an emo or are you in it just for the fashion??

I can say that I am not "emo".

Definition of Emo (as stated by wikipedia):
Members of the emo subculture are portrayed as melodramatic, self-pitying teenagers who pour their efforts into writing depressing poetry. The current emo subculture has been called a "sad caricature" of what it once was. Some have accused emo of celebrating self-injury or suicide, which those who do usually refer to "helping ease the pain". However, physical trauma triggers the release of beta-endorphins, which enhances relaxation and reduces physical pain. Some assert that within some emo circles, many pretend to be suicidal and self-harming as a way to gain acceptance, regardless of whether it is true or not.

Emo (pronounced /ˈiːmoʊ/) is a somewhat ambiguous slang term most frequently used to describe or refer to the fashion, style, attitude or overall subculture linked to post-hardcore fashion and its subculture. Emo may also describe emo music or a general emotional state (as in to "feel emo"). It is also, sometimes pejoratively, used to identify someone fitting a particular emo stereotype or category, or of being overly-emotional. The term's definition is the subject of debate.

I'm not emo myself but oddly enough, i LOVE emo music, but i dress really preppy! I have a lot of friends that are emo, and they are really cool. Yes, i definatly hate when people pronounce it wrong or when people are mean to emo people and say that they are crazy, angry, and always cut their wrists. Just because some emo people cut their wrists, doesn't mean that all of them do! People just get the wrong impresson about emo people. If you talk to them you will see that they are usually really nice. Also, they arn't crazy, or sad. Of course everyone can be at times, but people judge them on how they look on the outside and by the kind of music they listen to. I think it is really wrong to be that rude to people. Most of the time, emo people arn't in it for the fashion, they just like the clothes and the music.

I know someone that's Emo they talk about wearing long sleeves, they hang around this group of people that allways presure her into cutting her wrists, she said that she would never do it, but it felt good hanging with people that accepted her, even though they only accepted her for being Emo, she said she was allways sad while doing it. There was this other kid at my school that is so Emo that he put cologne on his hand and set it on fire, he was suspended for a couple days. Also everytime he roles his sleeves up you see marks from cutting himself, he says it's mostly because he wants something more and his parents are never home. I mean, i think it's because of pressure put upon you or something happening within your own family.

I was labeled emo because I'm shy, I never talk to people because I'm insecure about myself. I didn't ask for it and I don't dress that style, I have no style. I barely ever wear makeup. I'm not depressed and have never cut myself. There's more to my life then keeping up with a fad.

in my opinion, emos are posers and jerks.

they think the whole world hates them. the only thing i like about them is their hair.

other than that, they have got no life of their own.

just continue to sink into self-pity. and keep emphasizing how pathetic is their life.

get a life losers...

they think by cutting themselves, the probs would vanish. i think that is pure stupidity and cowardice.

You are judged by how you dress and look....it's a fact, maybe not a fair one, but a fact. If you don't like it, then change it. But if you insist on a style that isn't mainstream, then don't complain. Every era goes through styles that aren't viewed as acceptable and everyone grows out of them. It is what it is.
