Try laundering the shirts in cold water (never hot, it sets stains) and a good quality liquid detergent, such as ERA, with 1 cup white vinegar and 1 cup Arm & Hammer Washing Soda in the water. Agitate 2-3 minutes. Let sit in washer one hour, then finish washing. If stains did not come out, repeat soaking method overnight then launder. If the stained shirts have been dried in a hot clothes dryer the stains are already set and wont ever come out.

Deodorant and Perspiration Stain Removal
Yellow underarm shirt stains are likely caused by a combination of deodorant and perspiration. Many deodorants and antiperspirants contain aluminum salts. When these salts are combined with laundry detergent, especially in cooler water settings, they are not easily dissolved, and they remain on the fabric.
To remove the stains, try soaking the shirts in warm water with an enzyme pre-soak product or rubbing the soiled area with white vinegar. Wash in the hottest water safe for the fabric. If the stain remains, dampen and sprinkle stain with meat tenderizer. Let stand for about an hour, and launder again.
To avoid new stains from forming, always wash the shirts in the hottest water safe for the fabric. Also, allow antiperspirant to dry completely before dressing.:)

1. Check to see if the stain has changed the color of the fabric. If so, apply ammonia (Caution: Never mix chlorine bleach and ammonia - the resulting fumes are hazardous) to fresh stains; white vinegar to old ones. Rinse.
2. Pretreat with a prewash stain remover or rub liquid enzyme detergent into stain.
3. Launder using the hottest water that's safe for the fabric. Stubborn stains may also respond to chlorine or oxygen bleach in the hottest water that's safe for the fabric.

You can use bleach. Pre-soak the shirt in warm water with bleach added (check the bottle for amount) for 15 - 20 minutes before washing. Fill the machine with water before you add the bleached clothing to the machine.
This will work - but eventually the stains will be too dark to remove... it's the curse of white shirts!

I'd be interested to know if the salt thing really works. O_o The only other thing I can think of is bleach or Oxyclean. I get perspiration stains too, so I just stopped wearing white pretty much altogether.

Try addind a cup full of chlorox to the water next time you wash your clothes . Don't pour it directly on the clothes because chlorox will eat holes in them. Add chlorox once the machine is full of water
