I have three different kinds of ceramic tile. I am on a budget so I plan on using the tile that I was given for free. I believe I can design a nice looking bathroom so I am looking for information on random tile work. Or is this possible. A friend of mine tiled his kitchen floor with random pieces of tile. I need any information on how this can possibly be achieved.

Measure the bathroom floor. How many tiles you have.,size of tiles. Lay them out without actually putting down and come up with one of a kind design........

More important than KIND OF is SIZE OF.

After thousands of sq. ft. of tile I have some thoughts.

If the tiles are all the same size, you're halfway to paradise.

If not you should sort them...you probably should anyway, at least by color.

The install is the same no matter.

Measure the room,,,now dictated by the tile sizes you have, in your installation. IE: if the tiles are all the same size, design your pattern,,,even lay it out...add 1 inch every 4 feet for grout lines; define the cuts you'll have to make (do them last) and proceed.

Obviously the flooring/sub flooring should be clean/level/etc.

The ART of your pattern certainly, is up to you since WE can't know what you have.

The MATH in the issue has to be figured out by you as well, since WE don't know the tile sizes. In any case grout lines are 1/4 inch, and if you have enough of the same size, you might want to stay with those. IE: you'd have difficulty blending 12 inch with 9 inch and make them work appropriately... BUT lay out your design first.

E mail me if you wish. I'll be happy to help

do it the same way as laying any tile, lay the tiles out and find a pattern that you like.
