I think it could make a good rivalry but the ACC will return to Florida State or Miami very soon. These two teams suffer from having very poor quaterback leadeship, this position created too many turnovers for both teams. Virginia Tech and Georgia Tech are progressing drastically and they will make srong cases for being the next ACC champions, but I would have to see little bit more consistency from those two programs. They have a chance to dominate but are going to have to prove they can.

Let's see....
Georgia Tech beat Virginia Tech in 2004 Score (34 - 20)
Virginia Tech beat Georgia Tech in 2005 Score (51 - 7)
whicih eventually leads Va Tech to go on to play in the ACC championship game
Georgia Tech beat Virgina Tech in 2006 Score (38-27) which eventually results in Ga Tech going to the ACC championship game.
So to answer the question that you asked... would Georgia Tech vs. Virginia Tech make a great ACC football rivalry? Yes. Why? Because based on recent history, the winner goes to the ACC championship game.
You also asked... could Virginina Tech and Georgia Tech be the dominant teams for years to come? Yes both teams have been dominant in the ACC in the most recent years.
Every body is overlooking Georgia Tech, but in addition to going to the ACC championship last year they had strong ACC records the past few years with a record of 7-1, 6-3 the past 2 years. And Georgia Tech beat Miami, Va Tech, and Clemson 2 times each in the past 3 years.
Also, experts are predicting Georgia Tech to finish in the 10 this year and in the top 2 in the ACC.
But the toughest problem with ACC is like the SEC, they are filled with talented teams. That is why these 2 conferences are the best conferences in football because they have the largest numbers of strong teams.
So there are allot of dominant teams in the ACC including Ga Tech, Va Tech, Clemson, BC, Virginia, Miami, and FSU.

No, while Virginia Tech is a national powerhouse, georgia tech barely even made the ACC championship laste year, and only made it because of the down year in the ACC. Virginia Tech would just destroy them so the rivalry wouldn't work, and while virginia tech will dominate the ACC, georgia tech is just going to be happy to finish in the top 5.

In order for Ga Tech/VT to become a great rivalry, both teams are going to have to consistently be pretty darn good for a long time. Now, this season, they could finish 1-2 in their division. But that would need to happen several times over the next few years, with a few CLASSIC, memorable games between the two. Great rivalries don't get started easily...But honestly, I don't see a real rivalry brewing between the two teams. I expect VT to be force while Beamer's there, but I really don't see Ga. Tech becoming a perennial powerhouse...Also, Miami's in the same division, and used to be in the Big East, like VT. You are WAY more likely to see a great rivalry brew between VT and Miami...Miami may not be great now, but they will be back. You can always expect tradition rich teams like Miami to rise again.

You're forgetting why the ACC brought in Miami, Va Tech, and BC in the first place: outside of Florida State, it's not a good football conference.

no, not the kind of rivalry between Boston College and Va. Tech. I like the competition between Wake and Maryland also. Florida State will come back to be the dominant team in the conference

Seeing FSU and Miami get it together and return to the top would be more realistic than Georgia Tech becoming a perennial powerhouse. It's possible though, plus I'm biased towards the Noles.

The SEC is by using a techniques the greater in the two activities. Basketball consistent with annum you have courses advancing deep into the NCAA Tourney. soccer is likewise an identical with many communities qualifying for bowl video games. the biggest difficulty with the SEC is that the courses are so massive and strong that they beat on one yet another all season by using the top of the season they are crushed to products. The ACC has some reliable courses consistent with annum and a few that overachieve yet not almost the selection that the SEC carry.
