You cannot prove what you paid for the item.

It is YOUR responsibility to keep receipts.... That's Business 101 ..

Its not a scam.. they have to pay someone to do what you couldnt do.... to go find the transaction, and exactly what you bought, and how much you paid for it....

Someone has to pay for it....

This is why it's VERY important to keep your receipts. It may seem silly, but it'll save you a lot of problems returning the item and you'll get full credit if it goes on clearence in that time period.

how do they know what store and when you bought your item? The one store may have sold 100's of the same thing over recent months. how do you prove which one is yours. Don't lose your receipts next time. entry on a credit card acct just has the total amount, no detail on items bought

Very few places retain records of who purchased what at what price. If you do not have your receipt, they have no way of knowing what you paid for the item. So they assume that you purchased it at the lowest price they offered recently.

If you want full credit for what you paid, then be prepared to provide your purchase receipt on request.
