drs. from oregon come to Hi. to dispense med-pot. are they bound by Hi laws or oregon's? would a federal law be better? NOT!!! anyone know of legislation to make a more liberal system? please on't answer if you lable yrself conservative. i'm neither of these and damned proud of it. i'm just tired of flaky conservatives chastising instead of offering a solution.

States have their own laws, which regulate conduct within the state -- some states have made pot legal in certain instances, or under certain specific conditions.

If a person gave or used or sold pot in the state, they would be subject to the laws of that state. If they brought the pot from some other state, they would also be liable under the laws of the other state.

Regardless, they would still be liable under federal laws. The federal appellate courts that have addressed this have held that just because a state makes something legal -- that only applies to state prosecutions -- federal prosecutions for violation of federal drug laws are independent.

That's the current law. Personally, I don't believe Congress has any authority to regulate personal drug use, nor any authority to regulate medical practice. So far, the courts don't agree with me.
