it means that each of us has a responsibility to take care of ourselves and our families...not expect the government to take care of you...
it means we have the responsibilty to take care of our country..not degrade, belittle and curse it for being what it is...a place of freedom...

President Kennedy was encouraging people to be involved with the Peace Corps and other such organizations. The Peace Corps and other so called Socialist organizations were fought tooth and nail by Conservatives. How is one to serve the country other than military service without such things as the Peace Corps?

That was before we went socialist. Now we are forced to do for our country. Whether we think it is right or wrong, we are becoming slaves instead of the citizens JFK was referring to.

Might be easier to tell you what it doesn't mean to me. It certainly doesn't mean watch my neighbor next door leave for work from the comfort of my porch swing while I wait for the mailman to bring me my welfare check.
