I've seen and answered this same Q in the past, and my suggestion,,,with all due respect is,,, DON'T.
Obviously the federal govt. agencies who monitor manufactured cribs have very specific guidelines,,,and in case you aren't aware,,, many things manufactured with regard to use by children are Recalled.
Certainly the notion is valid, and probably loving, as well as it may be an eventual heirloom piece, but the issue is pretty much that a crib is a short term piece of furniture designed to hold secure the LIFE of a Baby.
I'm a parent, and have crafted furniture, but I suspect I thought better of the effort to create a crib, designed and built with the strictness dictated by the agencies governing such furniture.
If you are focused on the doing...first shop designs, get ideas, take pictures, know the materials involved

The number one thing you should make sure of is that a can of soda cannot pass thru the slats of the sides of the crib, many children have gotten hurt and worse (!) by getting their little heads in between those slats.
