I don't know about what blacks think, but the guy was raised by his white mother in the Midwest and Hawaii. I would guess his life experience is not quite the same as someone who grew up in S.E. DC, North Philly, Newark, etc. In any case I think he is aiming at white Liberals, so it probably doesn't really matter.

I saw an interview on this. He seems very mainstream and doesn't seem to do alot of things that they consider black culture. The analyst was saying he had to go to a black church and eat soul food and stuff. It's too bad people can't be taken as individuals and that his blackness and Hillary's whiteness can't be ignored for weightier issues.

What it means is they aren't smart enough yet. They like to polarize their own race. It happens even in Africa, the light-skinned view themselves better than the darkest of them, it's some sort of cultural vice, I guess. Being white, I can't explain it. I don't think I'm "whiter" than my neighbor, if he drives a foreign car and I drive a 4x4 Chevy lifted mudbucket. Maybe some day they can explain it to the rest of us.

That he is not "culturally" African-American ... that he is not descended from slaves. But then how many African-Americans know if they are descended from slaves? And suppose 1 of my 64 GGGG grandparents was a slave ... does that make me any blacker than Barack?

And isn't this exactly what King's dream was about ... being judged by the content of your character, not by the color of your skin?

It's stupid to think that there is only one "right" way to be black in America.
