So why can't the left and right wing work TOGETHER to get everyone insurance? I mean come on, these people graduated from big colleges with big degrees. Aren't they smart enough to actually fix problems instead of playing politics? Is it fair that lots of workers pay taxes and health care tax, yet don't get coverage or non-sufficient coverage? That's wrong, and everyone can agree with that. Dems are right, we all need health insurance. The GOP is right. We don't need higher taxes to get it. Why not give everyone low, affordable, choices as to which health plan that suits the individual? Why not give soldiers universal healthcare, because believe it or not, many veterans don't have it. Or give them low affordable choices? The Congress can do it, but they don't want anyone saying that they actually agree on anything. They need good sense. Why do men pay for uterus or exams women usually go for when they don't need it? Why not pay for just what you "NEED?" Can't they work together?

You'd think they could, wouldn't you? Unfortunately, each Congressman has to pander to his or her constituency. So they do things that will not get them booted out in the primary. That, of course, does not make it right.

By the way, universal health care will raise taxes but it would also eliminate health insurance costs!. The average British worker pays one-third less than the average American worker for care that many Americans can only dream about.

I agree. But I still strongly believe that universal health care is not the answer.
Think DMV - now imagine if it were a health care facility. Think infrastructure - again, imagine if your health was as well maintained as our bridges.
Health care is complex enough without getting the government bureaucracy involved in it.
There is a huge market for the type of health insurance you suggest in your question - but, apparently, there's not a huge profit in offering it because it's simply not out there.
I think the government could easily subsidize health care in the same manner in which they subsidize rent and utilities. It's obvious that anyone not earning a very substantial wage cannot afford health insurance - hell, they can't even afford rent and utilities - so the government subsidizes their basic expenses depending on their earnings.
Oddly enough, if everyone had insurance, health care costs would go down since the hospitals and other providers wouldn't have to cover the unpaid portion of their charges.
Despite all of the politicians that are jumping on the universal health care band wagon - I doubt we will see any significant changes in the near future.
Consider, the same idiots who can't even decide on a system or solution to this concern would be the same ones running the health care system if it is ever initiated - and that's scary!

Universal health care will raise federal taxes. By how much? The best estimates I've seen say 6 to 8 percent. What the Repubs don't account for is that it will also save individuals and corporations money. Right now it costs me about 15% of my gross income for a family health care plan that doesn't include dental or vision. That is 15% under a universal health care would be saved by me. Also the 70% of the premium that my employer kicks into that health care plan for me would also be saved by my employer. So for me that is a net savings of 7% of my gross income and I get full medical coverage, dental, and vision. Even if the health care wasn't as good (and that point is debatable) is that still worth it? I say definitely.

The US Govt. screws up every welfare program it creates. Just look at how badly it's screwed up Social Security. They stole/used the money that every American has put into it & now with all the baby boomers retiring their ain't going to any left for any under 55. A universal healthcare program which would be even bigger than Social Security is an enormous accident waiting to happen. US Govt. isn't the answer to the healthcare problems of the US. It has to be done through private healthcare companies & although it still wouldn't be perfect anything is better than letting the US Govt. run it.

When was it decided that the government was responsible for taking care of everyone?
But then again, I thought the Dems were in control of both houses. Why don't they pass give away bills over the heads of your stingy Republicans.
