Because those people don't understand that diplomacy is the way to go. They can't understand other people having independent thought.
Its a shame when you have to insult your fellow countrymen, when it means absolutely nothing.
I believe in more government, more taxes, and to conserve traditional values, but I believe that it is impossible to achieve in the United States. The people do not participate enough in the government, so they do not deserve a good government. I'll try to fix it, but moving to Europe isn't out of the question for me.

I've been here for over a year now and I ask myself the same question every day. The mudslinging, the name calling and the irrational misjudgments seem to have become worse rather than better although I blame that primarily on the fact that there is an election coming up. I don't want to sound prejudiced but it seems to me that the people who claim they love this country most are the worst offenders. I strongly suggest that they spend a few hours watching Congress debate both on the senate floor and in the House (C-Span I and II covers these Chambers every day) and get some lessons on how to disagree vehemently over issues and yet not succumb to the practice of name calling or character bashing. There is so much that this site has to offer so I hate to see it brought down to gutter level by the trolls and name callers.

I think some people take politics too personally. But I am a Republican and a Conservative, and there are issues that are worth taking a stand for, such as the security of our nation, especially in these times. Also to protect family values and marriage in this nation, they can be very sensitive issues.

Regardless of whether its tolerated or not, its politics and its gonna happen. As much as even I try to stay out of the nasty, name-calling debates, I,too, get caught up in it once in a while.
I can't even explain my reasoning without saying something that would be offensive to somebody. Like "how could people be so blind as to not see what a moron Bush is". I don't think I would be able to get my point across (which is "Bush is a moron") without coming right out and saying "Bush is a moron". So, you see, that simple, truthful statement would cause, in turn, another simple, truthful statement from the "other side".
Its a vicious circle...

Look to the TV and Radios shows that have nasty spokespeople. People with weak minds follow them and repeat their lies and distortions.
PASS LAWS REQUIRING THE RESTORATION OF EQUAL MEDIA TIME!
Plus even common courtesy is not practiced today. It is the fault of the parents and the companies. The parents for not teaching manners and the employers for not insisting on common courtesy in the job place.

when someone can't think of a good response they resort to name calling or just, bashing regarding things that may not have to do with the issue at hand. It's just usually the lack of a good response.
