Dances with Wolves. The BEST western movie ever: an emotional drama but with plenty of action.

I'd say old school western goes to John Ford's The Searchers'.Simply because Ford's cinematography of the West is breathtaking, and the storyline was rich.

In the 80's.........'Silverado"

Contemporary: Tombstone""Go on.."throw down boy","whip that snake pistol".

A great western also needs a bright, rich score to set it apart from other films, like :The Magnifecent 7" perfect example of the Great American West.

The Best Western to me is a hotel. The phrase can never relate to movies in my mind. Sorry, but my grandfather drove me crazy when I was youger with John Wayne and Clint Eastwood flicks.

I'm afraid you are all mistaken. While these are all excellent westerns. The best ever has to be Lonesome Dove.

G.B.U. or I'd vote for The unforgiven as Clint's best western.
