They are right, you have to open the case. Do not worry, nothing will pop out when you remove the side panel. Just be sure PC is unplugged. Take note that retail power supplies are 150mm wide.

you can't. the specs are on the power supply on a big sticker. Doesn't hurt to open the case and have a gander. Always good to open it once in awhile to blow all the dirt out anyways. prevents overheating and hardware burnout.

Go to the manufacturers website and look up the specifications for your model PC. Here it will tell you what size power supply you have.
