For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil. Some people, eager for money, have wandered from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs.
1Timothy 6:10

kind of odd, that any Christian would agree with that being printed on money. But I guess they feel it reminds people that Jesus always needs more money.

To me, it would seem to be calling money "God".

First, understand I am technically considered a pagan because I believe in more than one god, but the founding fathers were largely Christians and stated that they based the constitution on Christianity.
Here are some quotes.
Benjamin Franklin:
“ God governs in the affairs of man. And if a sparrow cannot fall to the ground without his notice, is it probable that an empire can rise without His aid? We have been assured in the Sacred Writings that except the Lord build the house, they labor in vain that build it. I firmly believe this. I also believe that, without His concurring aid, we shall succeed in this political building no better than the builders of Babel” –Constitutional Convention of 1787
In Benjamin Franklin's 1749 plan of education for public schools in Pennsylvania, he insisted that schools teach "the excellency of the Christian religion above all others, ancient or modern."
John Adams:
“ The general principles upon which the Fathers achieved independence were the general principals of Christianity… I will avow that I believed and now believe that those general principles of Christianity are as eternal and immutable as the existence and attributes of God.”
• “[July 4th] ought to be commemorated as the day of deliverance by solemn acts of devotion to God Almighty.”
–John Adams in a letter written to Abigail on the day the Declaration was approved by Congress
"We have no government armed with power capable of contending with human passions unbridled by morality and religion. Avarice, ambition, revenge, or gallantry, would break the strongest cords of our Constitution as a whale goes through a net. Our Constitution was made only for a moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other." --October 11, 1798

"I have examined all religions, as well as my narrow sphere, my straightened means, and my busy life, would allow; and the result is that the Bible is the best Book in the world. It contains more philosophy than all the libraries I have seen." December 25, 1813 letter to Thomas Jefferson

Charles Carroll
" Without morals a republic cannot subsist any length of time; they therefore who are decrying the Christian religion, whose morality is so sublime and pure...are undermining the solid foundation of morals, the best security for the duration of free governments." [Source: To James McHenry on November 4, 1800.]
Alexander Hamilton:
• Hamilton began work with the Rev. James Bayard to form the Christian Constitutional Society to help spread over the world the two things which Hamilton said made America great:
(1) Christianity
(2) a Constitution formed under Christianity.
“The Christian Constitutional Society, its object is first: The support of the Christian religion. Second: The support of the United States.”
On July 12, 1804 at his death, Hamilton said, “I have a tender reliance on the mercy of the Almighty, through the merits of the Lord Jesus Christ. I am a sinner. I look to Him for mercy; pray for me.”
"For my own part, I sincerely esteem it [the Constitution] a system which without the finger of God, never could have been suggested and agreed upon by such a diversity of interests." [1787 after the Constitutional Convention]

Christianity is not a bad religion and much of what Jesus taught was good.

Should the bible substitute the constitution? God forbid (LOL) but that does not mean that our laws and the constitution were not based on it.

lots of the founding fathers have been deists, no longer Christians, and a few, like Jefferson, have been extremely against prepared faith. Ever think of roughly cracking a history e book to make up for all the cases you probably did no longer pay interest at school? U.S. troops are scuffling with specially for the pastimes of transnational firms that do a good number of corporation interior the U.S. The conflict in Iraq replaced right into a mix of folly and evil. The conflict in Afghanistan is completely stupid and has little or no to do with everyone's freedom. yet our troops are brave, honorable, and properly-experienced. The fault lies on the appropriate.

Irrational much?

Ever read the Declaration of Independence? It says "...endowed by their Creator..." and its written in the language of English. If it were meant to mean Allah it would have been written in Arabic and read Creator praise be unto him. At the time the religion of English speaking people predominantly was a Christian one. The original colonists fled their homelands to escape tyranny of their Christ-based religions. Christopher Columbus was under the employ of the Queen of Spain and the Catholic church.

It may very well be that some of the founders of this country were pagans or deists or atheists but the vast majority of our population at the time was Christian.

I don't believe in their god either but geez you're losing control.

Stop trying to rewrite history YOU HEAR.

take a deep breath now. You sound very intolerant of religion. First of all why in the world do you think in court people would put their hand and swear on the bible? Judges used to judge using the bible and the ten commandments as a guide. You may not like it but thats how it is. You are free to worship whatever god you want, or no god at all. Its your choice and you shouldnt try to take that choice away from others.

You must of missed the day your class covered American History. Besides the Native Americans (whom the majority are now Christian) the first settlers were the persecuted for their Christian beliefs pilgrim puritans. Yes others came but for the most part the founding fathers that wrote our laws were Christians. They separated Church and state to prevent persecution for faith, because they knew only too well by personal experience the agony it creates for a nation.

The funny thing is, the documents central to the founding of this country refer to "God" but they don't specifically refer to the Christian god and the name Jesus is not mentioned at all.

Ooh, I love how wrong some of these other respondents can be...A good number of the founding fathers were secular people, and if they claimed a religion, it was usually Unitarianism.
Say it with me, folks...Unity.
Not Trinity.
God.
No Son.
No Holy Spirit.
Just "God". Not Christian. Founded on Judeo-Christian values, sure. But not Christian.
