It couldn't hurt, it only makes yours look more professional. That said, unless it's an office type job, it's not necessary. If you are applying at a store in a mall they may even just want you to fill out a pre-printed application. I worked management in retail for several years at several places, Abercrombie and Fitch and J Crew among them. Sad to say but we usually didn't even bother looking at a resume if an applicant attached one to the application, let alone a cover letter. But like I said, it couldn't hurt.

for a job at the mall, is a resume even necessary? Dont they want you to just fill out the application?

i would say definitely, a cover letter is unnec`essary (unless the position at the mall is the GM of the Mall Mgmtcompany)

Absolutely. Your resume may be written to fit a variety of jobs (although you should customize it to the one you are applying for) but you should use the cover letter to point out how the skills and experience described in the resume apply to the job.

If you have a resume, then you should have a cover letter as well. Although from my personal experience in retail management- I rarely saw a cover letter/resume unless an applicant was interested in management. It won't hurt to have both, it actually might make you stand out!!

Good luck!!

It is a good plan to personalize a cover letter for any job you are applying for...it may catch the eye of someone and get it to the top of the pile.

Don't write a life story just write a paragraph stating the job you're appying for, where it's to and a short summary of your skills. Let the Resume do the talking.

You should, as it would appear more professional. You also don't know who else might look at your resume, and be impressed by you taking the time to do a cover letter.

No - not unless you're applying to run the entire mall.
