A. What do you think of your home state?
B. If you're still there, would you like to leave?
C. If you're no longer living there, would you ever move back?

I'm a native of Kentucky, where I still live. Yet, I don't have much in common with practically anybody here (b/c I'm not a redneck.) I'm living in my "hometown," which is not my native town. Yet, I'm still frowned upon and treated as an "outsider" even though I'm from Kentucky!

This whole Ohio Valley (IL, IN, OH, KY, TN, WV, PA) does very little for me. I'd miss family and 2-3 friends, and would only return for Christmas, weddings, and funerals, and that's it!

I'm moving to Texas next year to start a new life--I'll have a degree, starting a new career, meeting new people, and hopefully find a Texas woman!

Am I crazy for leaving and doing so? What chances would I have of returning to KY, do you suppose?

Thanks!

I am Cimmerian, and that is where I am from.

But I have never returned.

Thulsa Doom killed my mother, he killed my father, he killed my people, and he took my father's sword!

My people's ashes were trampled into the Earth, and the blood became as snow. Who knows what they came for... weapons of steel, or murder? It was never known, for their leader rode to the south, while the children went north with the Vanir. No one would ever know that my people had lived at all. Mine is a tale of sorrow.

CROM!!!

Hey Travelin' Man ~

Now this is a really good question to ask on Q & A because there are really no right or wrong answers and you may end up with some great advice!

1.) I was born (as were my parents if you can believe that!) in California. It used to be THE greatest place on earth, but has declined rapidly over the last decade. Too many people, too much traffic, high prices, too much crime ... etc ... I've gotten to the point of actually hating it. =(

2.) I have been bordering on leaving for the last 2 years. Want to raise my son in a place that's peaceful, beautiful, and where people are still friendly. Places I'm considering are Colorado Springs, CO ~ Prescott, AZ ~ Austin, TX and Nashville, TN (where my dad now lives).

3.) Can't say about the "move back" part ... it would be hard my entire family (and it's huge with the exception of my dad) lives here within 2 hours distance. Missing them would be the hardest part. California is THE worst state to try and move "back" to if you've left though, because it's just too ridiculously expensive.

I don't think you're crazy for leaving KY ... I think you're quite smart! I've heard enough about it to know I never want to live there. You can ALWAYS go back and visit as you said ... you'll miss people but each time you're there you'll be reminded of all the reasons you left and be glad! Plus, people can come visit you ... it's a 2 way street.

I can tell you that you will NOT regret moving to Texas. That is the only other place I've lived other than here. Went to college there and had the BEST time. LOVED it! If I had any family there at the time I would have stayed. People are just so kind and friendly for the most part. It is just a cool state ... period! You will assimilate and be having a blast in no time ... I say hit the road and start a new life!

And you know what they say ... the most beautiful women in the world are from Texas (more Miss America's come from TX than any other state!) ;-) Your odds are good on the wife thing! lol

Whatever you decide ... follow your heart and not your head. That way you will never have any regrets! Good luck to you! =)

A. I like my home state of Michigan (what little I know about it). I have never lived there. My father was in the military and went overseas so my mom went home to her parents to have me. So we stayed there for a few weeks and then my father came back and we moved. We visited family quite frequently but that is all I know of the state.
B.
C. I used to think I would like to live in Michigan someday but after living in Alaska all these years, if I ever move it will be to some place much warmer than Alaska or Michigan.

You are not crazy for leaving Kentucky. I bet you will love Texas. Good luck to you there.

I doubt if you will ever return to Kentucky to live.

I live in the hills of North Arkansas, about two miles from where I was born and within three miles of where my ashes will be scattered.I am a 'insider' and proud to be called a redneck and good old boy' I have many friends who live here that I was a child in grade school with and known them a lifetime. I have ben around the world literaly, served a hitch in the military and made several trips overseas only to return here of my own free choice, and yes this area is my home sweet home and I never ever intend to leave!!!!

Yes... still live in the same general area where I was born, but it's getting too crowded and I've considered a move. Family & friends would be hard to leave and I'm sure I would miss "Home". But then I already miss "Home"... it's become far different from the world I grew up in. Sounds like you're young without ties... I'd make the move!

A. I live in California, and I love it, It has so much to do, and you can drive two hours to go the beach, or drive two hours and go to the snow. At least where I live. hah. Its just everything is right there laid out in front of you.

B. Never, I left once, and I came straight back after a year.

C. Well I moved to Utah and moved back within a year, see yess I would move back.. and never leave again.

But in your case, I say go for it. Leave. I hate being disrespeted, and I dislike rednecks, and Its like you don't need to be a native in a state, or town. Really I couldn't stand being an outsider, thats why i moved form utah back to california.

Really moving is an adventure, and I think you should go for it. :D Good Luck!!

I do still live in my native state. I lived in Kansas for about two years, but I yearned to come back. I love Iowa. It is far more progressive than anyone realizes.

A. I think I answered that. We don't all grow corn. We aren't all hicks. And we aren't all conservatives. Uh, and we don't all drive pick up trucks. And we aren't all related. That's the South (kidding!).

B. I'm here for good. I almost moved to Chicago once, but my now fiance got a job that paid plenty. So, we decided to stay.

C. n/a

I'm curious where in Kentucky you live. I just visited there to see The Police in Louisville. I can say I wouldn't be willing to live in Louisville, nice as it was. But I would live in Lexington. Beautiful area. University kids. It's cool there.

As for Texas . . . it's big. It's hot. It's kinda fun. But I wouldn't live there. The drivers scare me.

I don't think you are crazy. But you'll know shortly after you get to TX if you'll make it. Give it three months, and you'll know.

I was born in California and have lived here almost my entire life (the exception being a time when I was too young to remember).

One day I think I would like to get out of California but I would probably want to live some place like Portland, Seattle, New York, or Chicago. I'm not really a big fan of the "California" lifestyle, but I think I don't think I would like the midwest or the south.

Realistically though, I'll probably be in California the rest of my life unless I have a reason to move somewhere else.

Yes I'm still living in my birth state.

Cleveland Ohio isn't too exciting. It has a really lively theatre/art scene which I love. We have very highly rated orchestra and opera companies and one of the largest theatre districts in The US. We also have the largest collection of Primates in North America (housed in our Cleveland Metroparks Zoo) which is great because I love monkeys.

I'm an actor and I would like to remain as active as possible in our theatre scene here, but like all performers a move to New York is most practical.

Would I ever move back? Of course - My families here and I don't think they're leaving.
