Domestic chickens have been bred from the red jungle fowl of India and southeast Asia. Their natural habitat is forest and jungle.

They didn't.

Chickens are domesticated Fowls. So, a chicken really only existed in farms first.

You can call it Evolution but really had a lot of human interference called Artificial selection.

So, what were Chicken's ancestors? Galliformes.

Asking where chickens lived before farmers is just as saying where dogs lived before humans.

The answer is, They didn't exist.
They were bred through artificial selection.
And did not live in forests because thats their ancestors living there, not chickens.
The question which came first? chicken or egg? its actually the egg because it was the selected egg.

its hard to say cause they have been domesticated by the 1st humans....so thats a really long time!!!!!!
