for an awful long time I feel like the bed is like an oven. Every night for at least a couple of hours before bedtime I turn the bedclothes down. I have tried tonic water some years ago (at the suggestion of my doctor). My legs feel as though they are burning, so I put a cold flannel on them. to no avail. I apparently am not on the menopause any more. The bedroom windows are always left open, and there is certainly no heat on, but on saying that, quite often when I am sitting in the front room, the sweat practically rolls off me. The annoying part about it is, my husband has been retired for about 6 months, and he has gone from being pretty active to zilch , on his computer most of the day. He can climb into bed, and quite often be snoring his head off, whilst I am lying awake. There does not seem to be any logic in it, as I am on the go, and get tired, and there`s him not doing much of anything, and does not seem to have much of a problem sleeping

Carole, even after the menopause you can experience the symptoms you have but there are other conditions that exhibit similar symptoms. You may have developed anxiety about bedtimes due to insomnia (and your husband snoring)which can trigger physical symptoms. The fact that you are also sweating in the day needs a trip back to the GP.I am menopausal at the moment so I sympathise as I also can't sleep due to the body heat i feel.I dread going to bed because i know I will be lying awake for hours hot and bothered.I also get itchy legs in bed.A lot of this is also down to stress and i have just started taking Valerian herbal tablets from Boots which also contain hops and lemon balm which all combined relax the muscles and have a very mild sedative effect. They seem to be working okay so far so give them a go.They won't do you any harm and are very safe to use with any other medication you may be on.Actually if you are on any medication check out the side effects as that may be causing your problems and good luck.Sleep deprivation is a horrible thing to experience.

Hi you are describing what I am suffering, (I am female by the way)
I was on HRT for over ten years and with the scare I came off them (on Doctors advise), and I feel now the symptoms are of the meno. I now have a air condition on all night, and a fan over the bed, my hubby is not pleased but his snoring (which he Denies by the way) and his restless legs also don't help.
My husband takes quinine tablets which do not help (off the Quack) and like your Doctor says tonic water is just the same.
You really have my sympathies and I do not know what to suggest to you that would be of any help except if you use cold things this only makes your body thermostat jump into action and further heat is generated, so you may try warm things see what happens
and if it has the opposite effect, and good luck.

Oh boy, well this could have been me talking! I have sweats like that most of the evening, and then when I go to sleep, I have more sweats! I am 61, and have done the menopause thingy, but my mum who is 88 still gets hot, and has to take her cardigan off! She said that they never leave you!! So what a lot I have got to look forward to! lol My husband also sits at his PC, and then can doze in the chair, and sleep for at least 8 hours every night! He can also disturb me with his snoring! So, I don't know what the answer could be, but at least you know you are not alone xx

You are probably having hot flashes due to your menopause. My mother-in-law experienced them until well after her 60's, so I am letting you just know this is not unheard of to experience the sweat rolling off of you. Have you gone to your GYN to see about going on hormone relplacement therapy to relieve the symptoms? Sometimes this will help the hot flashes greatly. You should get a good physicial by your GYN and a blood workup to see exactly where your hormone levels are. There has been a new treatment of HRT where the treatment is customized for the patient. No need to be miserable when there is help for what ails you. As plenty of answerers suggested try running a small fan that points by your bed. Maybe the white noise it puts off will also help in aiding you to go to sleep and keep you cool.

I suggest sleep in separate beds. Also, try having a couple of hours before bedtime to wind down like reading.

My house is 72 degrees, I feel so bad for you!! I would HATE the heat while I'm trying to sleep. Your best bet is to put up your hair, put on a cold waschloth on your forehead, put your pillowcase in the freezer so it is cold, and sleep on the floor. On the bed the sheets, pillows and blankets make you warmer.
