There was an episode of The New Twilight Zone where Burgess Meredith was the narrator that was like your description.

It was about an Elvis impersonator who went back to 1954 but I can't remember how he did it. He met Elvis at Crown Electric & told him all about the life he was going to have & the songs he would sing. Elvis got mad & told him that the music he was listing was the devils music & he only sings religious songs. Elvis told him to shut up & then they started fighting & Elvis was stabbed & died. The impersonator then takes over his life as he knows Elvis' life & how it played out.

Hope that helps.

Elvis switched places with one of his impersonators.. with the idea that at any point he could switch back.. but the contract burns when his trailer blows up.. and the guy who replaced him died. This movie takes place later when he is in a nursing home and nobody believes he is Elvis.. and his best friend says he is JFK..
