(To the guy above) Psychology isn't a pseudo-science, a$$hole!!!
(answer): Think of this: our consciousness and subconsciousness govern the complex chunk of matter that is our body, but thats just because of chemical reactions and electric pulses that stimulate responses. our is just that! chemical reactions and electric pulses, so it cannot control matter, as there is no link between them.

Good Q. Light is not the ultimate link to the supreme consciousness. It is electro magnetic radiation with wave and quantum natures. It is part of this world. However there is the majestic vedic aphorism: tamaso ma jyotir gamaya Meaning: Dont stay in the darkness, go to the light Light is popularly used as a metaphor for knowledge. What kind of knowledge- Divine knowledge. Still the light can also have a more esoteric meaning the light mentioned is the Supreme light NOT the light of this world. It is brahman or Spirit not electromagnetic radiation. The various colours of light in meditation are just mental pictures put forth by the mind- One should go further. The real link is the light of knowledge - Just as a lamp is lit so the innner enlightenment takes place (enlightenment is not just theoretical knowledge- it is realised or experienced but theory is preliminary to realisation generally). The person who lights this divine lamp is the spiritual master. Then one can finally understand what he or she is, what is our eternal nature and experience never ending ecstasy in association of the Infinite. Light or electromagnetic phenomenon is also said to have its source in Brahman and Allah in the vedic literature and Quraan (respectively). Light is used because sight is useless without light similarly without enlightenment the spiritual world is dark for almost all people but if there is the light of divine knowledge is present immediately It is understood. God is here but we are blind to envision the supra mundane since we are conditioned by the darkness of ignorance.

I agree with Prince. This quasi-new age pseudoscience philosophy is aggravating to even listen to. If I somehow misinterpreted the question and this is intended to refer to quantum states and how they relate to conscious thought--that might warrant an answer. Its beyond my grasp atm, but Roger Penrose (arguably one of the most respected mathematicians and physicists of our time) has written some "light-reading" on the subject. And he doesn't fumble at the theories like a freshman toying with a bra-strap for the first time, completely baffled like other books I've read by "psychologists" and "philosophers".

Conciousness is a property of matter - a way for matter to process information when organized in a certain way. A good analogy is an interactive computer game program. computer=brain (matter) and program=conciousness.

You're stepping out of the realm of science and scientific reasoning and stepping into psychology and other pseudo-sciences. Thats all I'm gonna say.
