My opinion —
The earth sustains man and man generally deplets the Earth with the exception of Native peoples (Inuit, Aborigines, Native Americans etc) and environmentalists who try to either give back or take only life's necessities.

this is a good question.. the answer is alittle of both.. if you take any set of woods and let nature run its course.. the woods will die off.. to insect and sickness... but add 1 thing... mankind.. and the woods will exsist and even grow.. but mankind can also destroy the woods.. global warming is the 2000 version of 1970s global cooling.. which was also a joke fueled by left wing wackos.. i remember the same wackos in the 1970s screaming that all the math.. all the studing was done... and if anyone questioned it.. well you had to be an idiot.. the earth was going to freeze... the human race would starve..... now some 30 years later... OH MY GOD!!!!!!!! we are going to melt the polar ice caps.... people... at one time the earth didnt have ice on it and ice did well.... the earth is NOT static.. even if humans died off.. the earth would go in to ice ages.. and heat waves... just because it would... you cant stop it.. anyone that thinks this is a one side deal... really should go live in the country for a year and watch what happens when men does it thing to sustain the earth...

Earth Sustains Man because animals evolved on earth.

When all life are wiped out on earth, earth will remain.

If global warming kills us all, earth will not be destroyed.

Think of earth as water, man as fish. Water isn't designed for fish, but fish evolved to live in water. Without fish, water will exist, without water, fish will not.

Without the earth, mankind would die.
Without man, the earth would be fine.

I think it's safe to say that the earth sustains man.

Gravitation is the force of attraction that acts between all objects because of their mass - ie, the amount of matter they are made of. Because of gravitation, objects that are on or near the earth are pulled toward it. It keeps the planets in their orbits around the sun, and it keeps all the stars in our galaxy in their orbits about its centre. The gravitational attraction that an object has for objects near it is called the force of gravity.
