No! reducing the number of troops will not prevent wars. The idea of military is to protect America and Americans. Cutting most of the military will only leave us unprepared for war and natural disasters.

trying to be sarcastic there, rph? not working
i am for a good sized, well equipped military, used with intelligence and wisdom. a military deterrent is a good idea.
it would be useful in the event of disaster here at home. or for humanitarian missions overseas.
there are so many things positive that those kids in iraq could be doing. not to mention the ones that won't be coming back except in a body bag.

Although I understand your attempt at being facetious, this question lacks logic.
Anyone w/ any tactical knowledge, or not for that matter, would say NO.
As for starting wars, they would be started regardless. Said president would use the tools available. In a perfect world, there would be no wars and everyone would run around in the nude and wildly copulate with the person of choice with no remorse.

Sure. It's a great idea if you are willing to give up your freedom. Thank God this land of the free is also the home of the brave. Except in your case.

If you are speaking of reducing their presence in other countries, and increasing their presence in America, I would say yes, it would prevent wars.

No -- reducing our military will not prevent war.
There is nothing in the size of our military that by itself makes war necessary or automatic -- that's always a political choice.

No. Don't trust China. I want a strong military, let's just keep them at home protecting the homeland.

And what would we protect ourselves with? Keep the ones we have but put it in our constitution that we do not go around starting wars.

That makes no sense. We need an adequate functioning military for a variety of reasons. However, if you noticed, most people only object when we involve ourselves in other peoples civil war for reasons that are rather obtuse.
