Hold down Menu & the middle button for a while...
It's either the Menu & middle button or the Menu & Play button.
That should reset it.
If it doesn't work then go see the geek squad lol
Don't worry, resetting it won't lose your music or anything

First of all, make sure the "hold" button is not turned on by mistake.
If that isn't it, below is a link to Apple's support which tells you how to reset the iPod.

Check to see if the hold sliding bar on the top is all the way to the left. There should be no red showing. Happened to me once, so I hope that is all it is for you.

might nrrd to be re-set - hold down menu and middle button for like 15 seconds - the screen should go black but still somewhat see the apple logo - then it's good to go.............. verify this on apple's website...

It must be frozen, try resetting it, or you might have a low battery, I have an Ipod and have encountered this situaton
