If you are driving through the border, you don't need a passport but you do need some form of identication such as a birth certificate and/or drivers license. If you are flying into Toronto or any other Canadian city you will need a passport.

If you are driving across then all you need is a picture ID and they also suggest you have your birth certificate. Although I have never been asked for it. If you are flying into Canada then you need a passport. You will need a passport starting in January of 2008 to drive into Canada.

We were told to get passports, even for driving. On short notice, you can still get through with your drivers license and any other id that you can come up with, like birth certificates and social security cards.

Depends where you live.

If in USA you need picture ID...drivers' license or passport.

If you live in Canada...no ID unless you cross into USA

Any other country...a passport is needed.

I hope that helps and enjoy your visit. :-).

A passport and a couple of photo id's. That's, of course, if you're not planning on flying into Canada from Europe with a full-blown case of resistant TB. In that case, they'll just wave you through.
