Though the CD ROM drive is listed in "My Computer" my dvd rom hardware is nowhere to be found. When I click on hardware profiles I can see my floppy disk drive and both of my hard drives, but not my DVD rom drive.

It used to work, now it doesn't and I am fast reaching my wits end.

Check if your DVD drive is detected in BIOS. If not, reseat the connectors. If nothing happens, test it in another PC before you condemn it to the thrash bin.

If detected in BIOS but not in Windows, try a system restore to the time when it was working. OR reinstall its firmware.

one element you need to attempt is changing the cable. to attempt the cable, apply it to the problematic disks and notice if the Bios can nonetheless discover them.If definite, it in all probability isn't the cable. next attempt working the dvd only on the secondary cable. If that would not artwork, attempt the CD. one must be defunct, for this reason scuffling with the different from being recognized. My wager is the cable and that should mean a tendency pin on between the drives, or on the motherboard itself. stable success
