As of 2005, there were an estimated 3,000 Klan members.
Much more will claim to be in the KKK though, but officially they are not.

Teenie that is a very scary thought!

They perhaps once were a force in the middle 20th century, but there numbers have declined so much that they have basically become an isolated hate group that are powerless in everyday life in most US States. Within the Deep South some ethnic minorities may fear the worst, and if an organisation can do that they have a lot of power (all you had to do was look at Top Gear when they went to America and drove a car saying Hilary 4 President and other things that would offended bigots when they were in southern states. Was a good Top Gear, but if “normal” people are like imagine that the Klan are like!). Thankfully however the influence which they had with numbers is all but gone. I hope only for good.

I suspect the KKK continues to have an insidious effect in some sothern states of the US but its numbers are hopefully falling as the older members die. In modern society the KKK and the BNP should have no place.

I lived in Memphis for three years and Mississippi is the next state over let's just say the black people are afraid to go in Mississippi after dark. I ask someone why the kkk cover their faces he said because if they were your neighbour's they don't want you to know that. They don't want you to know when they are coming and who will be coming after you, pretty scary.
