Stop guessing and wasting money. You have to super shock.
http://appliancequickfix.com/ has a great page on pool water.

Stop using the bleach and get some real pool "shock" from your pool supply store. Low chlorine levels will cause algae to grow. Also use some "PhosFree" in the pool. It eliminates the phosphorous that the algae feed on. I put it in my pool once a week. Make sure you run the filter at least 4 hours a day, if not more. My pool is 11,000 gallons and I have no problems.

I feel the secret to being able to keep a clean pool is to make sure your filter is CLEAN and in proper working order. You need to backwash your filter frequently, especially in hot weather.

Many people do not recommend bleach BUT we use two gallons about every three-four days and add baking soda for a ph balance when needed.
{ Our pool is 30,000 gallons }

We've used bleach for years and frankly my bathing suits haven't faded and disinegrated like they did when we used the harsh chemicals from the pool stores.

Remember--- keep your filter CLEAN and run your pool pump for about 5-6 hours a day.

Good Luck !

sounds like you got a green algae problem! Shock it! you really have to get the chlorine level up to kill that stuff...brush the sides add algecide and use the shock-it chlorine product that is available at most pool places or home depots. After you get it under control just test it daily to raise or lower the PH as necessary. Good luck!

you need to go to the pool store....they have these 4 or 5 gallon jugs that has chlorine...just add 2 of those a week....keep your filter on several hours a day ....u can scrub the green off the sides of the pool with a brush...bleach usually isnt a good additive...i can only assume you havent went to an actual pool store

I have a hot tub instead of a pool. however when mine turns a little green, it is usually the residual alkalinity that is low, I throw in some baking soda to raise the PH level. I have heard that Shock is a good product.

if it only blooms about every 2 weeks in this heat we have been having, all you need is a floating chlorine tablet dispenser. the sunlight destroys the chlorine and this will keep the level right. dont stop your other treatment.
